LA Bicycle: Folding bike - A folded sheet of white paper is a symbol of the simplicity of collapsing and constructing the cycling machine. A great example of minimal simplicity:

Olay: The ‘Undo’ Effect - This ad brings to mind that Olay skin products can ‘undo’ the effects of aging. Creative use of Ctrl + Z:

Black Ribbon R.I.P. Michael Jackson - A wonderful example of a minimalist ad by MTV that represents the legendary singer Michael Jackson’s legs through a ribbon:

Wk 9- Nice Website

I am going to introduce a wonderful website, StumbleUpon. It's some kind of search engine that help the user to search for recommended web content for user which fits user's interest.

Home Page
In the home page after log in, I can edit my interest.

For example, I click on the word "Movie", it'll first direct me to a page. Click on the Stumble on the top left conner to find which site it will recommend us. The image, somehow not really related though.

After click on Stumble, the web page that recommend by the website will be shown randomly. You'll never know which site will be shown, you'll even get to know some new websites that fit your interest through here. For example:

It shows me 3 different web sites as I click stumble 3 times. Moreover, These are the website I don't know and I get to know new websites about movies, which I am very interested in. All in all, it's a good sites for me, as a designer to look for more useful references.

Wk 8- FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION and FUNCTIONS FOLLOWS FORM

In wikipedia, Form follows function is a principle associated with modern architecture and industrial design in the 20th century. The principle is that the shape of a building or object should be primarily based upon its intended function or purpose. In the aspect of modern architecture, "Form follows Function" by Louis Sullivan of American Chicago School triggered the development of modern functionalism.

Same as Design, if an object has to perform a function, its design must support its function. Which mean, you must consider the requirement before go into design. Basic background research of the subject and understanding the subject before start to design is very important for a designer.

For "Function follows form", it is mean we can develop design with existing form. The idea of function can be inspired by existing form. For example, Apple is function follow form. Why? The architect Louis Sullivan coined the famous maxim “form follows function.” According to Sullivan, the exterior look of an object such as a building should be consistent with its interior functions. But if you consider the way Apple Computer’s hot-selling iPad and iPhone are designed and manufactured, Sullivan’s concept has literally been turned inside-out.
